Introduction
Household Finances ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our financial management application and related services (collectively, the "Service").
By creating an account, you explicitly consent to the collection, use, and processing of your information as described in this Privacy Policy.
During the account registration process, you are required to affirmatively acknowledge this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service before your account can be created.
Your continued use of the Service constitutes your ongoing consent to our data practices. We will notify you of material changes to this Privacy Policy, and your continued use following such notification indicates your acceptance of the updated practices.
Information We Collect
We collect the following types of information:
- Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and authentication credentials.
- Financial Data: Transaction information you provide, or that is imported into the Service via connected bank accounts through Plaid, for tracking purposes.
- Phone Number: If you choose to enable SMS features, you may voluntarily provide your mobile phone number.
- Usage Data: Information about how you interact with our Service, including features used, preferences set, page views, and performance metrics. This data is collected via analytics tools and used solely to improve the Service.
We collect only the data necessary to provide our Service. You will be informed at the point of collection about the specific data being collected and its purpose. You may decline optional data collection (such as SMS features or bank connections) without losing access to core app functionality.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve our Service
- Process and categorize your financial transactions
- Send SMS notifications related to your account activity (if you have opted in)
- Authenticate your identity and secure your account
- Respond to your inquiries and provide customer support
- Comply with legal obligations
Third-Party Services
Our Service utilizes third-party providers to enhance functionality:
- Bank Account Connections: We use Plaid Inc. to securely connect your bank accounts. When you connect an account, Plaid collects your credentials directly—we never see or store your bank login information. Plaid provides us with account and transaction data according to their privacy policy at plaid.com/legal.
- Transaction Processing: Transaction data processed through our Verify and SMS tracking features is automatically categorized using AI-based tools. This processing is integral to these features and occurs when you opt in to bank account connections or SMS expense tracking. Our AI processing partners do not use your data for model training.
- Communication Services: We use third-party providers for SMS delivery and other communications.
- Authentication Services: We use secure third-party services to facilitate login and account verification.
All third-party services we use are required to maintain appropriate security measures and handle your data in accordance with applicable privacy laws.
Data Security
We take the security of your data seriously and implement industry-standard measures to protect it:
- Encryption in Transit: All data transmitted between your device and our servers is encrypted using secure protocols.
- Encryption at Rest: Your data is encrypted when stored on our servers and third-party infrastructure.
- Secure Financial Communication: We use third-party tools that provide encryption for all financial data communications.
- Authentication Options: We offer multiple secure login methods including email and password, one-time password (OTP) via SMS, and authenticator app integration. We recommend using an authenticator app for enhanced security.
While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.
